Why you need an awning at home

All names for an awning, which is essentially a sheet of fabric stretched across a frame and used to provide protection from the sun or the rain.

Sunblind, shade, shelter.

Tarpaulin, canopy, velarium.

All names for an awning, which is essentially a sheet of fabric stretched across a frame and used to provide protection from the sun or the rain. Awnings are used over shop windows and doorways and even on ship’s decks. But why would you ever need one at home?

It’s that time of year when you want to spend your free time outside with friends and family. You may already have a parasol to protect you from the sun, but they can infringe on valuable space and are often fiddly to put up and take down. For the modern home or business, a practical, sleek and stylish solution is an awning, and it doesn’t have to cost a fortune.

The benefits of having a patio or balcony awning

Safe, timeless and beautiful - an awning at home will transform your outdoor space, whatever the size, in to an amazing outdoor living area to enjoy all year round. It gives you full control and peace of mind, knowing that your plans won’t be affected by the weather – if it rains you can still sit outside and have that barbecue and if it’s a scorcher, you can sit comfortably in the shade knowing you won’t get burnt.

Features and add-ons

Originally, you’d choose between style and strength, but nowadays you can have both!

All our awnings can be made to span up to 7m wide and project out 4m, to cover large areas with ease. Our Pergola style awnings are available as a stand-alone unit of up to 5m wide with a 6m projection – plus, up to three units can be joined together!

Choose from several different types of awning fixtures, depending on your needs:

  • Folding arm
  • Multi fix awning
  • Cassette design

Awnings fold, roll and return neatly in to a case for safe storage. Metal parts are corrosion resistant and all blinds are electrically operated as standard, using a remote control, to make your life as easy as possible.

And for design, choose from 7 different case colours and 100s of fabrics - patterned or plain. Many available with ‘SNC’ a self-cleaning coating, which makes the fabric stain resistant and can be cleaned by a light sprinkle with a garden hose. There really is something for everyone.

Some blinds come with light, wind and rain sensors that automatically extend the awning when the sun comes out and automatically retract if sun disappears or the wind gets too high to prevent any damage. These can be add-ons.

Other additions include lighting, infra-red heaters and adjustable valance.
